Before I begin, let me say “Happy Birthday!” to the first of the Rachels, Rachel Sommerer! Woot! Tomorrow (Thursday) is Rachel Hofman’s, so cheers to her, as well!

Let’s talk about my garden and how terribly it’s going. My first tomato plant got sick and the three tomatoes that I thought were going to feed my stomach and my soul bit the dust. So, so sad. There is a basil plant going strong but the carrots are ruined, the radishes never grew so I let them go to seed and the lettuce has been overtaken by weeds and neglect. My other tomato plant (in a cage)looks like it’s going to suffer the same fate. No one’s surprised, right?

But tonight, I checked my cucumber plant…..

Why, yes – I am using a piece of a fluorescent light fixture for a trellis. Yes, it is garbage from my basement.

It’s actually doing pretty well. And then I saw……

Woo-hoo!! Success!
