The top of our handrail has been loose for who knows how long. It has not been a big deal, because I live here and know not to depend on it, but we had company a while back and I realized that it’s really pretty broken. This weekend, I grabbed a drill and decided to fix it.
Stupidly, I thought I could find where the studs were. Stupid Lauren.
I used a magnet, but wasn’t thinking that it would be lathe and plaster under all that. I made lots and lots of ineffective holes.
After way too many holes, I just stuck anchors in the old holes and called it good. No finished photo, though, because I forgot and now I’m just lazy. Imagine that I did it perfectly and did not put in on crooked.
Ok?

Great work, Lauren! I’m imagining a perfectly straight and well-mounted railing.
I think finding wall studs is harder than people make it out to be. Even using those electronic stud-finders has been difficult for me.

I have NEVER seen a more secure handrail. Well done!

I agree that finding studs is hard. I’ve had a heck of a time trying to find one in this house. Seriously.
