It was not a great start to the day. I needed to get some cat food from the freezer (I buy giant bags and divide it up) and discovered that it had not been locked previously and that the door was cracked open. Some stuff was soft-ish (the meat was still frozen) and there was a heckuva lot of frost all over everything. Dang it! It was too late to do anything about it before work, so I grabbed a hatchet and chopped off enough ice so that the door could close.
While chopping, I got a text – for the second day in a row – that the ovens at school were shutting off. I drove in early to reset the circuit breaker, but it wouldn’t work after three tries. I sent some emails to the people who know how to call electricians and went about my day.
This evening, I pulled all the freezer stuff out, set a fan in front of it, and watched t.v. for a while. That turned out to be the best way to defrost it. There was a huge puddle of water on the floor, but hey – it’s an unfinished basement.
Also, most of the stuff in there is weird: Lloyd has so many bags of grapes, and they fared the worst. He still wants to try them to see if they are edible, but I think the texture has changed and he’ll break a tooth. (Hard to know what to root for: being right or being wrong.) Personally, I am despondent at the THREE containers of tomato sauce in there. Only three? Didn’t I process tomatoes all summer? What happened to them? I guess I mostly made pizza…..
The freezer is quite old. I think it actually used to be Deborah’s? Anyway, this Saturday, I’m going freezer shopping. It’ll be used, but new-to-me. Woo hoo!
