Ok, here’s the story: I knew that I was going to sleep in that shed over the weekend, and was pretty sure I could make it through Friday night (low of 30), but not Saturday night (low of 13). Smart Lauren of the Past set up the cobbled-together bedding on Thursday evening. (Yoga mat, carpet foam, dog beds (don’t ask) and the Prius mattress. I was a little worried, because with all the pretty lights decorating the shed, Lloyd said that turning on the heater function on the fireplace would probably blow the circuit. No problem . I was prepared for cold. I have been dying to find out how much heat my empty, antique kerosene heater can crank out if I put candles in it.
There was no need to worry. Lloyd the Elf was busy after school. He unplugged the lights so that I could have heat, and he cobbled together a wifi thingie so that I had internet. Then he went out for a beer.
It was glorious! I brought a giant piece of fabric from school and tacked it up to block some drafts through the double doors, and also some blankets over the windows to keep people from reporting me to the police. I brought the Google Mini out and played Christmas music (thank you, Lloyd) and rocked and watched my pretend fire. Rachel stopped by for a bit and got to experience my insanity. After she left, I rocked and drank hot chocolate until Lloyd came home. We sat and talked for a bit, then he went in and I went to bed.
It was pretty cold, but the heater kept it at 43 degrees inside. I love sleeping cold, so it was great! I was up at 5 and debated staying in bed or making more hot chocolate. (I brought the propane stove out.) Deciding that I’d be sad if I didn’t, I boiled up some water, made the hot cocoa, then promptly scalded my mouth.
Still happy.
Later in the day, I went out to gather up a few of the things, and discovered that there is a significant gap (less than 1/4 inch) where one wall meets the eave, and you can see daylight at the end of the eave. No worries, but it did explain the draftiness.
Next up: obsessive thinking about insulation.

That looks so cozy and zany. But what’s with Jeff?
Lauren says
Ha! It’s a yard sign headboard. I think they’ll be terribly fashionable in the future.
Kristi says
Oh, how awesome is that! Sweet dreams, Lauren!

Looks to cozy to use as a shed. You may have to add another one for storage.
