(Sunday afternoon) As I write this, it is 2:19 p.m. and I am in the Mac Lab at Lloyd’s school. He is across the hall getting ‘to go’ bags ready for teachers. A big snow is scheduled to start tomorrow, anywhere from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m., and it’s supposed to go on all day. This means that they are probably going to have a snow day on Monday, and maybe even on Tuesday. If that’s the case, they’ll have online learning on Tuesday and that’s what the ‘to go’ bags are for. (They’re full of computer stuff.) So far, he’s had three teachers stop by and get what they need in case they need to work from home on Tuesday.
Me? I’m just typing. After we are done here we are stopping at the hardware store for stuff for my shed. My tomorrow and Tuesday will look very different from Lloyd’s.
“What will your next couple of days look like, Lauren?” I hear you ask. Well, I’m glad you asked, since I’m just sitting here typing. I’ll get up at 5 (as usual), but there will be a flurry of texts as my awesome director lets me know the day’s plan. We will open a little later, but I’ll still go in at my normal time since there are parents who won’t get the message and will show up. (One dad drives a snowplow, so I can’t really be mad at him.) Monday will be a day of some families calling in to say they’ll be gone and lots of staff calling in to say they can’t make it in, either. Our director will have done a vast amount of re-scheduling before she even gets to take a shower.
“Why don’t you just close?” I hear you ask. Well, that’s a question that makes me want to punch people in the face. Some parents are able to stay home with their children and some are facing hard times and have to be at work. I hear all the opinions for both sides – staying open or closing – and my position is: nobody knows everybody’s story, so stop throwing opinions around. (These words aren’t directed at you, of course.)
Huh. That got dark pretty quickly. Ok, I’m done typing for now. Lloyd’s not done working, but I’m going to visit the Menard’s website and choose some paneling for my shed roof.
