Colorado recap….. mostly

April 6, 2021

I didn’t post daily when we were visiting my family, so here’s a recap.

On Friday morning, we left at 4 a.m. for the Omaha airport. The flights were blessedly uneventful, and I slept through most of them. We flew to Phoenix and then to Grand Junction, and while Lloyd was looking out over the landscape of western Colorado as we came into the airport, he asked, “Has your Dad ever flown around over your home area for fun? I bet he would like that.” That, my friends, is the story he can tell you tomorrow.

My awesome sister, Keren, picked us up and drove us to Eckert. We talked and laughed and then met up with my parents, where more talking and laughing ensued. I got to see Keren’s fantastic apartment, which is just across the road from my parents and inspires nothing but jealousy in me. I forgot to take photos. Trust me – it’s cool!

On Saturday, Keren surprised me with a fire pit so I could have Council Fire in Colorado! She joined me behind her apartment and we greeted the day together with fire. (I set up some buckets for us to sit on.) It was lovely! Forgive the potato quality of the photo – I took it with my flip phone.

Next, my Dad made French toast using cinnamon swirl bread, which, I have to tell you, is life-changing. It was delicious!

After that, we hung out in the backyard for a little while.

Then Dad, Lloyd and Keren went on an adventure (you can read about that tomorrow), while Mom and I hung out together and had a lovely time visiting. Later in the day, we all napped a bit and then had another delicious supper that couldn’t be beat. We prepared some food for Sunday’s Easter breakfast at church: an egg casserole and then Keren and I cooked up three pounds of bacon. Mmmmmmm…… bacon.

We went to church on Easter and it was glorious! My Mom tires easily and she needs to rest often, but she was so ready for church! The church was full of lots of people celebrating the Resurrection and it was wonderful. Afterward, we had a brunch at church that was delicious…… but the three pounds of bacon was mysteriously missing! Keren and I did a church-wide search and found the dish tucked way in the back of one oven (I bet Lloyd did it), so my Dad graciously walked it around to all the tables, offering bacon and earning the role of Favorite Person. Who doesn’t like bacon?

We got home and were completely wiped out. We had a little family Zoom, watched a movie, then made yet one more Delicious Meal. We all went to bed early.

On Monday, we visited until it was time to go to the airport. It was a really great trip, and I was so glad to see my family. However, Lloyd gets all the points, ….. but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to read why.
