That’s not a rage statement, although I did have a very difficult day – it’s a fact. I would never take my feelings out on butterflies.
One of my parents said that her daughter got a butterfly kit in the mail, and would I like to have it in the classroom? I flat-out lied and said,”Yes! That would be great!” What I meant was, “No. I have enough guilt about the plants I kill.” *sigh* Ok.
We have actually been gifted several butterfly kits, with coupons to get the caterpillars, and I thank the parent but then put it in storage. However, this time the caterpillars were already there, munching away on their weird brown goo.
Over the weekend, all five made their little chrysallises. Chrysalides? Two of them have fallen down, but the pamphlet assures me that ‘this happens in nature’ and ‘don’t worry about it’ and ‘we already have your $25 bucks’. Today I transferred everything into the habitat, including the fallen two, and we’ll just see what happens.
I think they are going to emerge over the weekend, which means I will forget to check on them…… and they will die.
Sorry butterflies. I’m doin’ everything I can.
