I am not a great cook by any means, but I did some cooking this weekend. Our director is taking care of her parents, and on her birthday, our center gifted her with some freezer meals. My own contribution was to ask Sam to grill a bunch of chicken, and then I added some ‘heat-n-eat’ sides. Personally, though, I was kicking myself for not being confident enough to just make some meals. So, on Saturday morning, I turned a ten-pound tube of hamburger into six freezer meals and some frozen Pages of Meat for future cooking.
In my head, this whole process was going to go much, much smoother than it actually did. I figured I’d be working for an hour, but it was more like two. I made two pans of Tater Tot Casserole, two pans of Shepherd’s Pie, and then I guess it was supposed to be Goulash, but it’s more like a cheeseless Italian Bake. I really panicked on that last one.
Anyway, they are in the freezer now. My plan is to fest-reheat each one, and if it is edible, pass the other on to our director’s parents. It’s like being a real-life Poison Tester for royalty.
