I’ve had conferences in the evenings this week, and since I stupidly didn’t send in my truck registration in time, Lloyd has given me a ride to work so I don’t get ticketed . He is unconscious when I’m done, so I walk home afterward. No big whoop. It’s peaceful and not terribly cold.
Wednesday night, I was walking on the sidewalk pretty close to home. My neighbor had parked (what I thought was) her new, different car in her driveway, but overhanging a bit into the street. I though that was weird, and then I looked around…..
I wasn’t at her driveway. That was still a ways up.
This car was parked RIGHT BY a fire hydrant. In fact, it was BACKED up onto the grass, drunk-driver style.
It was weird. Then….. I looked across the street.
Across the street is a house with a sloped driveway, directly across from this car. Hmmmm…. I was pretty sure what had happened.
I walked up to the house, rang the bell, and a young dad came to the door. “Hi, I just live up the street from you and I have a weird, question – is that your car?”
It was, indeed! He was baffled about how it had happened. We walked over and marveled how close it had come to the fire hydrant, then he got in and drove it back home, presumably setting a parking brake this time.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. I really wish I would have taken a photo….

That’s a crazy story! I see videos of runaway cars on the internet every once in a while. If only you’d gotten a video of it happening, you could have tons of imaginary internet points!
