Well, the weekend just got weirder. When I got home on Saturday, Ralph had made a gross, unmentionable mess all over that took a lot of cleaning. We’ll leave it at that.
On Sunday, I was up bright and early and had a home Council Fire. Then I started to do some house chores (I was going to late service), and when I took some laundry downstairs….. I discovered water all over the floor. Not from our original leak from the washing machine shut-off valve, oh no – the old water softener.
I went into hard freak out mode. I needed to clean up the water but also catch the dripping water, but no item made that work. The mops were dry and just pushed the water around, so I used a towel, but more water just kept coming. I needed to catch the water but the softener is too close to the wall and nothing would fit back there. I said a LOT of bad words, very, very loudly, scaring the cats.
After a lot of wasted motion, I cobbled together the first temporary system: a small dustpan under the leaking connection that diverted the water to a 2-liter bottle (zip-tied to the pipes) that moved it to a rectangular trash can that almost caught all the drips.
It was dripping at about a gallon an hour. When it was an acceptable time to let Lloyd know, I sent him some messages. He tried to turn a valve to the ancient softener and that caused something super old to wear away? Whatever. This is going to need professional help.
After church (I set up for communion), I bought some supplies for Laurening this thing up until a plumber can fix it.
The hose runs to the floor drain. Many moons ago, we had a shower installed for Lloyd’s brothers when they detasseled here. I had glued bricks around the ‘shower’ area, and for this adventure – I got to use the sledgehammer my Dad gave me! I knocked a brick loose so the hose could get to the drain.
Here’s hoping that Monday is not as weird.

Oh, what a mess. Water is so important, yet it can cause SOOOOO many HUGE problems. Hope it gets fixed really, really fast!
