I’m trying to establish new habits. Wait. I’m not supposed to say it like that. I have been reading a book (Atomic Habits), and it talks a lot about how the semantics work regarding behavior. Instead, I’m going to say that I take care of my teeth and eyes now. (I’ll do a book report another time.)
When I went to the dentist earlier this year, my periodontal issues were becoming extreme. When they stabbed my gums with that tool, I had pockets of 4 and 5 millimeters. (4 and 5 are bad.( Well, I floss AND use a Water Pik, and at the last visit, I improved my teeth! I just have one 4 and one 5, and I’m going to work on healing those, too. Go, me!
Last week I had an eye appointment, and my meiobian glands are not great. (Those are the oil glands in your eyelids that help your tears to not evaporate.) You have about 20-30 glands in your lower lid and 40-50 in your upper lid. A couple of years ago, my functioning lower-lid glands were 9. They told me what to do (heat therapy, massage, fish oil pills), but I didn’t. This visit? I only had a 6.
Whoops.
So, now I have a good habit of using my heated pad in the morning when my first alarm goes off. The problem with the eye pad is that it’s so boring. I wouldn’t do it in the daytime because you just have to sit there with your eyes closed. Ugh. But…. as I’m hitting ‘snooze’ a few times? No problem!

I’m impressed!

Having a body that’s getting older feels like having an older car… lots of maintenance to keep it running properly.
