I’m sorry I haven’t written much lately. I dislike being busy, and the past week and a half have been pretty packed, and there isn’t an end in sight for a few days. Brace yourselves for some complaining. Valentine’s Day was pretty rough, but Thursday* said, “Hold my beer.”
I was so tired after Valentine’s Day, I went to bed at 9. Then, I woke up at 2:30 and was up for the day. Great. I had lots of thoughts going through my head – there were several things that had to be done at school, the wind was howling, and I remembered that my Dad was going to do a Wal*Mart pick up on Thursday*, but the weather in Colorado is also bad. When I got up to get ready, emailed Dad and said him that if the roads were bad, he could postpone his Wal*Mart trip. (I am a worrier.)
The school day began with one cherub pulling his pants down at the breakfast table to show someone his privates. “To be funny” was the reason.
We needed to all be in attendance by 8:15 to make it over in time for ‘big kids’ chapel (our first visit), and thankfully we all made it. I posted myself close to the Exposer to make sure it was a G-rated service.
Coming back, we had our last practice for the evening’s Love Songs concert.
Back in the room, it was LOUD, and then my wrist phone rang- it was Dad. He wanted me to check ithe Colorado cameras to see the beautiful snow. I tried persuading him to wait go to Wal*Mart, but then the phone connection buzzed out, then conked out. When I tried to call back, his phone was off the hook. Eventually I got in touch with him.
Then, one of our lights went out. I calmly explained to the children that ‘this happens, but we will be ok, right?’
Another teacher came in to ask where we keep the urinal air-freshener disks because one of her boys pooped in the urinal. (I did not have to clean it up, thankfully.)
Some of the other classroom lights flickered, then flickered again. I assured the children that we are ok.
A few minutes later, I smell ozone. A kid says, “It smells funny in here,” I asked my aide to turn off the lights, then looked at the one that went out.
There were two dark spots. Now it smells ….. smoky?
We got the kids out of the room to another to watch a video and I went to shut off the power to the room. My director and facilities manager came and he worked on fixing it. (It was the ballast in the light fixture.) He worked on it while my kids played and had lunch in the big kids room and I worked on keeping my cool. Did I mention I’d been up since 2:30?
Ugh. It doesn’t sound so bad when it’s typed out, but a continuous series of things happened throughout the day – several of the toddlers were sent home throwing up, my iPad stopped working and it took half an hour to get it back online, Lloyd brought home chicken for me (at my request), but the gravy spilled in his car, and…. there was yet a concert that night.
The concert was ok. Short and sweet, just like us, and we didn’t have to use any of the barf-cleaning supplies that I brought along Just In Case.
Here’s looking forward to Thursday.
* Wednesday. Thank you, Gretchen! we are having a bit of a blizzard, so I have the gift of time to work on that next big project. It won’t be a boring Thursday, but I am grateful for not being rushed with this!
