IKEA

January 4, 2007 by Lauren 4 Comments

Oh, how I love IKEA.  Please visit their website to see all the wonderfully designed, inexpensive, fabulous things that I love so much!  Unfortunately, there isn’t one anywhere in the Midwest.  Most of my friends live close to one, the jerks.  Kathryn & Todd have one in Chicago, Brad has one in Baltimore, and Charles and Deborah will have one soon in Salt Lake City.   *sigh*

Brad brought me my birthday/Christmas package this trip – NOTHING in this pile cost more that a couple of bucks.  (He said that he looked through the super-clearance, in honor of my cheapness.)

I love these, but I hate that I cannot gaze on them in the store.

‘Bye, Brad

Orange you glad I didn't say banana?

The saddest time of the year is when Brad leaves, because it means that fun is gone , work is just around the corner, and now we have to turn the furnace back to the ‘freezing’ setting.  We took him to the airport around 11 a.m., but his plane was late to arrive, and leave.  (I’m sure he’ll write all about it at www.bradaptation.com .)  Here he is getting his boarding pass.  Lincoln airport is very small, so we didn’t get arrested for taking photos.  Whew.

Have patience, have patience, don't be in such a hurry...

While we were there, we saw Lloyd’s idol of hair.  It may take a few more months, but I think Lloyd can do it.

Now THAT'S some hair!

Games people play

January 1, 2007 by Lauren 4 Comments

arty farty Kinda dicey

Last night we (Lloyd, Brad & I)  went to Beth and Harold’s (joining Beth, Harold, Tara & Curt Nierman) for the first annual Pester Fondue New Year celebration.  It was fun to eat melty stuff, but then the games had to begin.  I am not a game person, so Lloyd is always disappointed in me.  I played Fact or Crap with everyone, but then….*sigh*….Lloyd had to get out one of his ‘Settlers of Catan’ games.  Everyone else seems to enjoy it to some degree, although everyone agrees that it goes on WAY too long, and perhaps using a timer for everyone’s turn might be a good idea.   I usually sit around and make disparaging comments, but this time I had a digital camera to take ‘art shots’, as we call them.

Jailed in his little game pieces

(Self-portrait through water glass)

 Aaahhhh! I scared me!

Note from Lloyd: Lauren has taken about a million pictures with her new camera. I liked some of the other pictures that she took last night, so here are a few more…

fondu fun ready to begin

burnt fondu fun: stinky cheese man

We couldn't decide what to call this with tara around

The best board game ever

Look, people actually playing

Wed!

December 31, 2006 by Lauren 3 Comments

They’re hitched! John and Kate had a beautiful wedding with FABULOUS decorations, if I say so myself. Here you see them eating the absolute best cake on the planet.

Great Cakes, Batman!

Everything was perfect, although we did have about an inch of rain, and the house was out in the country on a dirt road. It was awesome to see her relatives pitch in and pull people out of the mud using tractors! Lloyd was very gentlemanly and escorted people to the door with umbrellas, after telling them to NOT park in the mudholes.

Bumbershoot, ma'am?

Perhaps my favorite memory will be how the dryer buzzer went off three times during the ceremony. (John was drying laundry so he’d have clean clothes for the honeymoon.) That’s something you seldom hear at other weddings! Happy Marriage, Bradys!

Not a dry eye in the house, but the laundry....

Here comes the bride…..

December 28, 2006 by Lauren 3 Comments

Saturday is Kate and John’s wedding!  Much of today was spent getting the house ready for the occasion.  Annette and I are on decorating detail, which is the fun part.  (Other people are doing food, Lloyd is doing music.)

Here comes the bride....

After the decorating, Brad, Beth, Harold, Tara and I went to Lincoln to do some shopping. We saw Lloyd at Bed Bath & Beyond.

Hmmmm....are we getting any roayalties?

Merry After-Christmas!

December 27, 2006 by Lauren 5 Comments

It was a fine, fine holiday!  We enjoyed our time in Missouri, and Lloyd liked it so much, I left him there. (He’s actually staying so he can visit with brother Andrew, who is flying in from his Navy job.)

My Christmas present was a digital camera, but it’s taking me too long to figure out how to shrink the photos.  Later I’ll post some different ones with people, so for now –  here are some cat photos to annoy you.

I'm not a tree

Farm cat – climbing me.

Mother of all cats in mid-Missouri

Grandma Kitty – best cat ever.
