So I’ll live to be…..82?

October 4, 2011 by Lauren 10 Comments

I’ve been trying to think of something to post about off-and-on all evening, but in truth I’m actually just waiting for 9 o’clock so I can go to bed.

I believe I’ve been feeling a mid-life crisis coming on. No need to buy any extravagant item (that’s usually guys, right?) – just a vague sense of dissatisfaction.

Then I realize how indulgent that sounds.

Then I realize that I’m really too lazy to have a crisis.

Then I notice that it’s 8:50. Good enough.

(No photo today – I don’t know how to take a picture of my midlife. Midriff, yes, but no one wants to see that.)

Let’s add a couple bucks

Today’s post is going to redirect you to a Youtube page. The Goodman Cancer Research Centre (it’s in Canada) made a great dancing video and their sponsor, Medicom, will make a donation for every viewing.

Plus – it’s crazy catchy! Click on the picture to go to the video.

No comment necessary today. Thanks. 🙂

I love my computer.

September 26, 2011 by Lauren 4 Comments

Aside from being blissfully quiet when I get home and not requiring any conversation from me at all, my computer is also my television. On an evening when I have a lot of dishes and peach nonsense stuff to get done in the kitchen, it tells me stories…

Lloyd, too, is blissfully quiet. He's not in the picture, so you can stop looking.

… while I’m in the kitchen.

I love it.

Thanks for the warning….. this time.

September 22, 2011 by Lauren 7 Comments

Nebraska’s driver’s license renewal time period is every 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 14, 21 or 42 years. I know that it’s one of those because on our next birthdays Lloyd and I will be 42, and those are the factors.

The last time this event came around, there was no warning. (Or I missed it. Totally possible.) I was paying a credit card bill and noticed that the card was going to expire soon. “Hmmmm…. I wonder when my license expires?” I wondered. I checked the card and the answer was four months ago!

Seward is a tiny little town so the DMV is only open on Mondays and Thursdays. We high-tailed it down there and met with the disapproving looks from the lady who made us re-take the written test. I was paranoid we’d have to re-take the driving part, but we didn’t have to. Whew.

I am fairly sure we didn’t get renewal postcards last time. That would have been helpful.

Huh. I thought this was going to be a better story. Guess not.

(Lloyd update: He’s doing better and resting quite a bit. He still breaks out into night sweats (gross), so there’s been a lot of laundry on my end. Thanks for the pwell pwishes!)

Awesomest Bed Ever

September 15, 2011 by Lauren 10 Comments

When I was little, my sister and I shared a bed. That worked out great until I rolled out onto her assembly of plastic horses that were grazing on my side of the bed. I woke up to the pain of being *(here’s where I realize I don’t have any idea how to spell squere. Skewer?) skewered by dozens of pairs of plastic equine ears.

One of the bedrooms in the parsonage had two closets, so it was an obvious choise to make a bed that would divide the room into two areas. It was magnificent! In my memory it was as big as a castle, but in reality it was just the size of a bunk bed. It had enclosed ends, and then each bunk was enclosed to make Lauren’s Loft and Keren’s Cave. At the bottom I had two drawers and one open cubby, some mirror tiles to make my side of the half-room look bigger, and I forget what the other side had.

I loved my loft. I had an envelope taped to the top brace where I kept some Secret Money. I also had an umbrella that I’d use to reach out and turn off the light.

The only scary memory was the first time the cat realized she could climb the ladder to find me. Nothing scars you for life like the scrabble scrabble of claws ascending.

Thanks for the awesome bed, Dad!

It’s like raaa-aaaa-aaaiiiinnnnnn….

September 12, 2011 by Lauren 8 Comments

Lauren (washing dishes by hand and staring meditatively at the suds): “You know what’s ironic?”

Lloyd: “Are you sure it’s ironic? Because people misuse that word all the time.”

Lauren (deflatedly): “….. it’s not ironic.”
