A Golden Anniversary

April 23, 2017 by Lloyd 5 Comments

My parent’s 50th wedding anniversary is today, so wish them well. We actually celebrated it over the weekend. They didn’t want anything elaborate, so we just did all of the things that we normally do when we get together. Over the course of the weekend we: talked, ate bacon, played cards, made sandwiches, ate sandwiches, played cards, watched the Cards, went out to eat, went to Zesto’s, played Settlers of Catan (don’t tell dad, we had to wait until he went to bed to play), quoted Paint Your Wagon, [note: we did not watch Paint Your Wagon or even have it playing while we didn’t watch it. This was the only way in which the weekend was disappointing.], played cards, gathered eggs, pet chickens.

You know, the usual stuff.

Happy Anniversary, mom and dad. We should do this again next year.

Happy Day!

October 16, 2007 by Lauren 10 Comments

Sorry for the site being down yesterday. We ran out of gigabytes or something. All’s well now. On to the post!

October 16, 2006. Yes, it was one year ago today that we became so jealous of Brad’s cool site that I demanded one of our own. It’s been a whole year filled with lots of silly pictures and snippets of our lives. We thought about how we could best thank you, our loyal handful of readers, but it was too late to order t-shirts, pencils, or mousepads. We’ve been through sicknesses, varied haircuts, a wedding, a birth, hallos and goodbyes, and it’s been fun. We wouldn’t have nearly as much fun without you, so – thanks!

To celebrate this momentous occasion, I’ve put together some pictures from the past twelve months. They are in no particular order, and for some reason everything we put on youtube turns out blurry. Whatcha gonna do?

Thanks for playing, guys!

Happy Anniversary!

August 21, 2007 by Lauren 11 Comments

Lloyd and I were married on August 22, 1992 – right before school/ student teaching began. It was perfect timing, since it was right before school and all our friends would be back in Seward for the wedding. It was stupid timing as far as being teachers goes, though, because we’ve always been wiped out during that time of year. For almost every anniversary, if there was time to celebrate, we would rent a video and eat Chinese food.

On our tenth anniversary, however, I suggested that we should do something special. Perhaps a little trip, or at least some gesture to show that we had lasted a decade. “How about getting our rings engraved?” I said, thinking that we could put in a Bible verse or the date. “Yeah. How ’bout with hash marks?” replied Lloyd. After a moment of silence I burst out in laughter. Perfect!!! Like marking time served, eh? So we went into a very nice jewelry store in Lincoln and asked for the marks. We have been back each August since, with different responses – depending on who’s working the desk. Sometimes we’re charged, sometimes not. Last year one of my CDC kid’s mom worked there, so she provided transportation (of the rings) to and from the store, (no charge, of course). This year we get a slash instead of a hash, so it’s very exciting. I’m the cheapest date ever. Here are the rings before this year’s engraving:

Rings

And here they are – fresh from the engraver! Fifteen marks!

No charge!!!
