Welcome, Guests

January 21, 2013 by Lloyd 3 Comments

About six months ago, the guest room had its last visitors. After the kittens were given the run of the first floor, the guest room was closed off. Slowly, over the next few months, everything that the kittens might destroy was moved into the guest room. This turned out to be pretty much everything in the house.

Lauren had school today, and when she has school and I don’t, I have to devote some portion of the day to doing something productive so that she doesn’t want to kill me quite so much.   Today I tackled the guest bedroom. I waded in, and with the help of the kittens, eventually threw out 4 trash bags full of things that I was reasonably sure Lauren wouldn’t notice were gone. Stuff was moved to it’s right spot. Piles and piles were sorted. Kittens were threatened. Closets were cleaned (well, just the one). Beds were not made (you have to draw the line somewhere).

It was slow going at first, but then I remembered to fire up the ol’ “Songs that make Lloyd Happy” playlist on iTunes and everything rolled merrily along. I was, once again, very, very, very glad to have the card catalog.

We are no longer accepting gift bags.We are no longer accepting ukulele music either. We are also no longer accepting any of this crap.We will still accept things that I like.Anyone want to hire me?
My only reget is that I didn’t get a “before” picture. That was the first thing Lauren asked me when I got home.

Spring Cleaning

September 22, 2012 by Lloyd 5 Comments

I’m not sure if we are very late or very early for spring cleaning, but more things got cleaned in our house today than normally get cleaned in a week. Maybe more than a week, unless Lauren is cleaning things without me knowing about it.

Really, that’s not likely, because I am utterly fascinated by cleaning. I could sit and watch someone clean for hours. But today Lauren somehow tricked me into also cleaning.

The floor needed mopping.

Furniture even got moved around. We moved the trunk to vacuum the rug, and I said, “Our goal is to get the rest of it that middle color.” Lauren insisted that it was faded from the sun, as she has actually been vacuuming lately.

It's got to be sun damage.

After vacuuming, she insisted that it must have been a haze of shredded tissue particles from the kittens. Sure, Lauren.

Whoa. That was dirty.

Luckily, we got finished cleaning in time for nap time.

Work day

July 8, 2008 by Lauren 19 Comments

It was a productive day!  We got donuts (more about that on Brad’s site), visited with Beth and the kids, then Brad went to Lincoln and I settled in to clean the house.  I like making lists so I can cross stuff off and stay focused.  I’m a little ADD when it comes to house cleaning – pick up the laundry to take upstairs; notice that there are shoes on the steps; the shoes remind me that I was going to go outside and move the trash can, then being outside reminds me that I like ice cream, then I look up an ice cream recipe on the internet and the next thing I know I’ve been surfing the web for two hours.  Lists are golden

I worked pretty hard for about two hours, then I watched episodes of Doctor Who on YouTube.  Yep.  That’s my Tuesday.  It was awesome.

Cross ‘em off!

Saturday’s goal

November 17, 2007 by Lauren 7 Comments

Yes, I am so desperate for material for a post, I am putting up a picture of my messy house.

Today’s big goal is to get this mess under control. I’ve been putting it off for weeks and weeks and it’s pretty embarrassing. I’m usually much better about handling paperwork when it comes in the house, but now there are just piles of it everywhere. There’s also a bunch of dirt/ fur/ laundry/ vacuuming/ dusting/ etc. to do. Lloyd will work on website stuff. If all of this gets done by the afternoon, I’d like to go look at glasses. My prescription has changed, and looking at the computer now gives me a headache – and we can’t have that!!

Oh, the shame.

Update:  It’s been an hour and a half of cleaning, and I’m taking a break. I’ve been taking before and after pictures for that awesome ‘sense of accomplishment’.  If you’re a dial-up person, there are a lot of pictures yonder:
