graduation

All the parties.

May 19, 2013 by Lloyd 7 Comments

I almost did it. I made it to all but one of the graduation parties that I was invited to this year. Lincoln Lutheran’s last day of school was Friday and all but three of the parties were Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I think I went to 10 parties for a total of about 20 students (it’s pretty common here for multiple students to have a graduation party together). I have not officially had enough graduation cake.

This year I tried something new. One of our seniors had all of the other seniors put their party information into a Google Form (which gets shoved into a spreadsheet). Then we took that information and used a website called batchgeo that takes spreadsheets worth of data and turns it into maps.

Then the seniors could share the maps with whoever they wanted and I shared them with the other teachers.

Every party

Just Sunday's parties

The letters on the push-pins are the order of the parties, but I still had to do some work by hand to try to minimize travel time. I was mostly unsuccessful. I think there was a total of about 180 miles of parties.

schedule

They were a good class. As I shared with some of them a few weeks ago, “Just when you start to become people you leave.”

Party planning

May 24, 2012 by Lloyd 3 Comments

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Last weekend was graduation at Lincoln Lutheran. This calls for attending more parties than I typically go to during the whole rest of the year combined. In the past I’ve just sort of looked at addresses and times and driven around. This year there were more parties that I really wanted to make sure I got to, so I upped the organizational skills a bit.

Exhibit A:

top: Saturday; bottom: Sunday

Exhibit B:

And one was WAY over to the right.

Exhibit B is kind of fun. You make a spreadsheet that has address, state and zip-code as well as whatever other information you want to include (name, times, whatever) and upload it to batchgeo.com and they turn it into a google map.

Anyway, the graduation parties were fun, and Lauren decided to do the right thing and go to(ward) the parties with me. Then she got off somewhere close by and did whatever she wanted to do.

Congraduations!

May 9, 2009 by Lauren 6 Comments

Today was graduation at Concordia University, and everybody and their dog graduated today! Annette (who you know from the commenting), Darlene and Zoya (two fellow teachers) all got their Masters in Early Childhood Education. Kudos to them!! My student teacher, Anne, and a couple of the college aides also graduated with their bachelors degrees. If I knew how to work Photoshop, this picture would have Darlene, Zoya and Annette circled. You’ll just have to figure out who’s who on your own.

So many square hats.

Annette had a celebration at her house that evening, which was very fun and well-attended! The Pesters and Curt were there, and it was the first time Annette and Curt have talked that wasn’t in our comment section. 🙂 Everybody had a great time, especially the kids. Annette has a giant dirt pile next to her house that used to be her basement. The little ones had a blast climbing to the top.

Daddy help me up.
