PVC & me

August 16, 2008 by Lauren 12 Comments

I’ve been trying to line-dry more laundry lately.  Yeah, for the environment and all, blah blah blah, but mostly because someone said your dryer is the second biggest energy-sucker in your house, and it’s cheaper to line dry.  Cha-ching!  You may recall this blurry post from the past that showed the old line-drying system?  Well, I’ve amped it up.  For reasons that are not relevant to this post, I happen to have a lot of PVC pipe and connectors hanging around in the basement.   I hung one piece from the ceiling, and in addition to all the other hacked pieces, can now get a whole load hung up and crispy.

Just waiting for spiders to drop.

But wait! There’s more!  With the addition of cinder blocks, I can dry sheets!

I have got to get a hobby.

No, I did not drag it on the filthy ground.

Feel free to mock me, you fabric-softener junkies.  I mean, Brad.

Ain’t no sunshine….

June 26, 2008 by Lauren 13 Comments

*sniff* Lloyd’s gone. Gone! Colors are dull, cats are less cute, food has no flavor, air has no freshness, water has lost its wetness.

However, I still have laundry detergent. I buy our laundry detergent at Sears for the absolute cheapest price. I wait until it is on sale, then buy the smaller container. The larger box is twice as much money for fifty percent more, and that’s no bargain. I’m making this post because I’ve always wondered how long I make that detergent last. I’m not a big believer in finished laundry that has a ‘clean’ scent/perfume. Isn’t that a residue that was left on your clothes?

Anyway, note to self: You opened this box on June 26th. The day soap lost its soapiness.

Lloyd used to like clean clothes….

Have fun at your conference, Lloyd.

UPDATE:  He made it there safely, though very late due to stormy weather that made him miss his connection.  Thanks for taking care of him, Rowlands!  (And thanks for the picture, Christina!)

GAARRRRR!!!!!

June 25, 2008 by Lauren 13 Comments

So, when doing a load of laundry, we all know you should make sure you don’t have a red item in there or your whole load will turn pink, right?  Well, what about a rather new green napkin?  I went to unload the washer last night and everything looked so dingy.  I sighed, took it out, then ran the whole load through again with the rest of the bleach in the bottle.  This morning I found this:

They all used to be the same.

Two more!  No longer green!  Laundry still greenish!  Gaaarrrrrrrrrr….  Lloyd, when  you wake up would you buy some Rit dye remover for me, please?  Thank you.

“How did this happen?” you ask?  We use cloth napkins and toss them with dish towels in a little bin in the kitchen and I always throw those in with the white clothes.  Not anymore – at least for a while.  Happy Wednesday, everyone.

The Laundromat

January 23, 2008 by Lauren 9 Comments

American Idol’s back on, so that means I’m useless for 10 – 15 minute stretches, then I try to be super-efficient during the commercials. This post is going to take forever to make.

On Sunday one of the jobs was to wash the mattress pad that used to be new and wonderfully fluffy, but now has developed two Lloyd-and-Lauren shaped dents, rendering it worthless. I had tried just running it through our dryer a couple of weeks ago, but all that did was spin it around and shrink it a little. Nope, this time I washed it at home, then we took it to the laundromat with it’s ginormous dryers to restore it’s glory.

I love laundromats. Seeing all the multiple washers and dryers – it’s like I’m rich!!!

rows of washing delight

I’m sure I’d love them a lot less if I had to use one on a regular basis, but the novelty is fantastic. I saw a new gadget I’d never seen before – the hanger dispenser!
I'll never lack for hangers again!

This is the way we wash our tools.

December 28, 2007 by Lauren 7 Comments

Before Brad arrived, I was running around like crazy trying to put all the stuff away that I drag out for various ‘experiments’. I was also trying to do some laundry, so I was on my way to the basement with a basket of clothes and as I walked through the house I put things in the basket that needed to be stored elsewhere. I got the things put away, the clothes in the machine, ans sat down to do some computer stuff.  I heard a funny noise and wondered why the washer was making such a racket, then discovered the reason while unloading the washer.

Did you know that you’re not supposed to do this?

What the??

Or this?

I need therapy.

Whoops.
