Not to whine or anything.

August 15, 2007 by Lauren 10 Comments

I hate when people say how busy they are, because I can’t possibly believe it.  The only busy person in the world is me when I’m working hard.  Everybody else must just be faking it.   Same with being sick.

We’ve had the good fortune to have some extra days to work in our rooms this week.  Tomorrow the lead teachers are off to a conference with Annette to learn good things and be better teachers.  It was nice to have extra time, though I quickly fell into the trap of making a list, then doint lots and lots of things that were never on the original list.  I’m hoping that we really do get back on Saturday night so that I can finish things up on Sunday.  (This picture was taken early in the day, so it’s not quite this bad anymore.)

Paint, lumber, tools, and a big ol' mess.

Sorry, no photo.

I could take one, but that would involve going outside, taking a picture, hauling the camera in and figuring out how to edit it on this computer from school. Too much trouble. I’ll just tell the story.

I’d like to change the housekeeping area at school and build a cool framed-wall shell around it that I can’t explain. Whenever I get the bug to actually build something, it’s much better if the lumber is already purchased and waiting in the basement. Otherwise I go to buy it, realize how much it’s going to cost and then chicken out – wasted trip. So, now there are some two-by-fours in the basement ready for a spare moment.
When I bought them at Menard’s (the smart man’s Home Depot) I loaded them into the back of the truck , tied them together, then exited going forward so I wouldn’t back into anyone with my sticking-out boards. There was an awfully nice truck beside me on the right, so I made a hard left so I wouldn’t scratch him…. and scraped my own truck on the cart corral. Stupid Lauren.

Housekeeping

January 6, 2007 by Lauren 4 Comments

Several of our ‘fans’ haven’t seen where I work, so here’s a little glimpse.  In a preschool room, you have different ‘centers’ – blocks, painting, books, writing, science, and housekeeping.  Here is our housekeeping area.  My dad helped build the kitchen, which is the most durable thing you’ll ever see, complete with a real sink (though it doesn’t really have water).  It’s o.k. that I’m showing you these children, since their heads are turned away. If they were facing the camera, there are several forms that they, their parents, you, me, and my lawyers would have to fill out.
