Adventure!

November 27, 2008 by Lauren 12 Comments

I’m going to cross number 7 on the To-Do list off today! The rest of you can check in with Lloyd to see if he’s feeding the cats – I’m off to Minnesota! Of course, picking Black Friday might not be the smartest thing, but hey – whatever.

I’m thinkin’ Tai Chi.

August 4, 2008 by Lauren 24 Comments

I’ve never been an athletic person. I don’t think you should run unless a big dog is chasing you. I don’t like to sweat or get my heart rate up, and I don’t like feeling out of breath. Unfortunately, sticking to my ‘no exercise’ rule for 30-some years has created a body that sweats, gasps and pounds its heart carrying a load of laundry from the basement to the top floor. I think I might need to exercise.

Number 8 on my ‘To Do’ list of life is ‘learn some form of martial arts without actually practicing’, and I think Tai Chi is where it’s at. I’ve watched a couple of videos on YouTube, and it looks so calm and beautiful. There appears to be very little sweating, and most people seem to do it in their pajamas! That’s right up my alley. (If it could also be done in your sleep it’d be a shoe-in.)

On the movie Calendar Girls these older ladies get together in the early mornings and practice their Tai Chi on the lush English hillside, and they look great! Surely I could do it, too. Of course, I’ll have to overcome my issues with strength and balance, but I’m sure I’ll come out graceful and deadly.

Don’t mess with us or we’ll Tai Chi you!
