The Big Tree

June 14, 2014 by Lloyd 5 Comments

In college we used to go out to this big tree –which we called, “The Big Tree.” It was this tree in the middle of nowhere. Well, actually it is about 2 miles West of Seward and only a half-mile from nowhere as it is in the middle of a section.

On Thursday, after successfully executing Burger Night at R.O.’s with Sam and Rachel,we decided to go out and introduce Rachel, Anna and Gracen to The Big Tree. I regret that I didn’t take any pictures from further away…

I’ll admit that it doesn’t look that big in the above picture. Lets get closer…

Still a little bit hard to tell. Lets put some people in there for scale…

I don’t remember it being hollowed out like that the last time we were out here. So that must have happened within… I don’t know. The last decade? Here’s a shot from the other side…

Well ain’t that festive.

December 12, 2009 by Lauren 7 Comments

In an effort to feel less Grinch-y, I put up a little Christmas tree today. It is all that’s going up, because in a couple of weeks decorations are just supposed to come down again, and honestly – why make Future Lauren go through all that hassle? I’m sure she’ll be too tired for that. You’re welcome, Future Lauren. You’re welcome.

The tree is behind the door in the living room, because that’s the obvious, logical place for a tree, right?

There is no way to get a good photo of this tree.

In other news, I needed to refill my sugar dispenser and felt a small burst of festivity coming on. Colorful sugar! Turns out you can’t really mix food coloring into sugar in a tiny bowl like it shows in the photo. That makes a decidedly unfestive, bad-word-muttering mess. A ziploc-bag worked much better. Now I have damp, colorful sugar hardening into a brick in the dispenser, and shaking it to loosen it will soon mix it all up and turn it …… hmmmm…. I wonder what color?

Stripes of Christmas cheer.

Thick Fix

June 23, 2008 by Lauren 12 Comments

Walking home the other day, I noticed that this tree has an unusual spot.  I wonder how long ago they poured concrete here?  Was it to fix a broken branch spot?  Or kill a colony of carpenter ants (putting thousands of concrete boots on them)?  Or is this a rare concrete tree? Hmmm…..

That ain’t right.
