Fire lovers of all ages, I’m here to spread the news about the glorious wonder that is Bacon Grease. For those of you who find relaxation in gazing at flames but don’t quite have a whole hour or so to dedicate to building, watching and babying a fire made of yard waste – this is for you.
Step one: Make bacon.
Step two: Save the grease.
Step three: Wad up the paper towels (or whatever) that you used to drain said cooked bacon and put them in the saved grease.
Step four: Days later, put greasy papers in some sort of fire-burning receptacle. (A fire pit if you have a Brad, or an old metal bowl if you don’t.)
Step five: Ignite.
Six pieces of bacon made enough fuel for a 25-minute fire. Not too shabby. If I was still able to drink a beer in the evening, this would have been timed perfectly.
Brad says
I wonder if there are special songs for singing ’round the bacon fire?
Brad says
I had trouble deciding if the above sentence should end with a period or a question mark. A period seems more grammatically correct, but a question mark seems to add the right inflection. I’ve had this question before, but haven’t seem to be able to find an answer. If anyone cares to find some sort of definitive answer, that would be great.
Peggy says
Both are grammatically correct. It depends on you. Are you making a statement that you are wondering (use .) or are you throwing it out there as a question (use ?). You’re welcome?
Brad says
This sounds definitive. In situations like this, I will operate with these rules from now on.
Peggy says
I can’t wait to try this! But bacon grease has always scared me…so I’m a little nervous about the paper towels getting out of control.
Luckily, I’m happy staring into the flames of a candle. Not having a firepit, when I sit outside at night, a candle on the table completes me. But now I can step it up a notch.
One non-rhetorical question: Did the air smell of bacon?
Rae says
I also wondered about the bacon smell…
Gretchen says
I was wondering if s’mores made over a bacon flame would taste like bacon.
Curt says
I hope so. That would be awesome! Mmmm….bacon.
(Oh, to make some of you jealous…..on my work trips to CA, my hotel serves free breakfasts for employees of Experian. So I get eggs and french toast or waffles, and all the bacon I can eat. And and bunch of other stuff too. It is great!)
Brad says
Do they have any openings at your company?
Lloyd says
Do you have a secret password or something? A handshake? Could I just say, “I’m with the Experian.”?
Lauren says
No bacon smell (boo), but it does look a bit more sooty than regular fire. It’s hard to tell for sure because it’s always dark out at Fire Time.
Mark says
Not a funny comment or a hilarious riposte, but…
This would be a great way to get a fire started on a rainy or drizzly day! Way better than an aerosol can of Right Guard and a Bic lighter.
Lauren says
They both have their uses. 😀
