What I was watching 1984-1985

October 28, 2014 by Lloyd 3 Comments

Here’s the next installment in the “What I Was Watching” series. This is the year I went off to boarding school. Doesn’t that sound dramatic? We were usually too busy to watch much TV, so there are more blanks here. Also, we had to be in our rooms studying from 7:00 until 9:00. Um, I’m not sure of those times now. Any SPCH people care to give the correct times? Just to make this more like the others, I’ve still marked what I would have watched with an asterisk. Here is the complete prime time schedule for 1984-1985 so that you can play along at home.

7:00 7:30 8:00 8:30 9:00 9:30
S *Knight Rider *The Jeffersons *Alice *Trapper John, MD
M *Scarecrow and Mrs. King *Kate & Allie *Newhart *Cagney & Lacey
T *The A-Team x x
W *The Fall Guy *The Facts of Life x *St. Elsewhere
R *The Cosby Show *Family Ties *Cheers *Night Court *Hill Street Blues
F V vs. The Dukes of Hazard x x
S Airwolf x x

Notes:

  • x: Nothing on, didn’t watch.
  • vs.: Whichever one wasn’t a rerun
  • I never watched Miami Vice, but I did have a dream that I was Don Johnson in an episode. I actually dreamed in both pastels and stereo.
  • This was the first Season of The A-Team. I don’t know how we watched it.

What I wasn’t watching 1983-1984

October 23, 2014 by Lloyd 6 Comments

There was absolutely no change in the shows I watched from the 82-83 season to the 83-84 season. So, instead of finally just putting this series of posts to rest, here are the shows that I was least likely to watch. And here is the complete prime time schedule for 1983-1984 so that you can play along at home.

7:00 7:30 8:00 8:30 9:00 9:30
S Archie Bunker’s Place Gloria ABC Sunday Night Movie
M Square Pegs Private Benjamin N.F.L Monday Night Football
T Father Murphy Gavilan Hart to Hart
W Tales of the Gold Monkey Alice Filthy Rich Tucker’s Witch
R Joanie Loves Chachi Star of the Family Too Close for Comfort It Takes Two Knot’s Landing
F The Power of Matthew Star Dallas The Quest
S T.J. Hooker Gimme a Break! Love Sidney The Devlin Connection

Notes:

  • There are so many of these that I have absolutely no memory of.
  • I actually don’t dislike these; they just lose in their time-slot
    • Hart to Hart
    • Alice
    • Too Close for Comfort
  • I actually ended up watching Joanie Loves Chachi fairly often because my sister, who normally has pretty good taste, really liked it.

What I was watching 1980-1981

September 27, 2014 by Lloyd 6 Comments

Here’s the next installment in the “What I Was Watching” series.  I’m pretty sure that I’m the only one who finds this fascinating. Here’s the first instalment. And here is the complete prime time schedule for 1980-1981 so that you can play along at home.

7:00 7:30 8:00 8:30 9:00 9:30
S CHiPs Alice The Jeffersons Trapper John, MD
M That’s Incredible M*A*S*H x Lou Grant
T Happy Days Laverne & Shirley B.J. and the Bear Hart to Hart
W Real People (unless Daisy was guest starring on Enos) Diff’rent Strokes The Facts of Life Quincy
R !?!?!?! Magnum P.I. 20/20
F The Incredible Hulk vs. Benson The Dukes of Hazard NOT Dallas
S WKRP in Cincinnati  (2nd half of) Barbra Mandrell & The Mandrell Sisters The Love Boat Fantasy Island

Notes:

  • x: Nothing on, didn’t watch. (way fewer of these than in 1979-1980)
  • !?!?!?!: This was a real conundrum. Here were the choices:
    • Mork & Mindy / Bosom Buddies
    • The Waltons
    • Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
  • vs.: Whichever one wasn’t a rerun
  • NOT Dallas: This is the only show I remember not being allowed to watch.
  • I fully admit that I should have been watching Hill Street Blues instead of Fantasy Island

7:00 7:30 8:00 8:30 9:00 9:30

  • No B.J. and the Bear [sniff]
  • Tuesday is a sweep for ABC in the lucrative 11-12 year old market
  • Mork & Mindy jump the shark with the addition of Jonathan Winters
  • I was in love with Trudy, so I couldn’t watch The Fall Guy with any regularity.
