Seward is a little town, and our newspaper only comes on Wednesdays. I usually treat it like most news, and ignore it. This week’s paper was briefly scanned by Lloyd and put right into the recycling bin. I never even saw it.
Coming back from Omaha this Saturday Lloyd got a text from Beth: “Did you know your house is on the cover of the Independent?” Lloyd read it to me and I was so excited – had we won a contest for Coolest House In Seward?? Then I got nervous – had we won a contest for Stupidest House in Seward? Perhaps they were doing an article on ‘Seward Bloggers – they’re right under our noses!’
No, it was a couple pulling their little girl on a sled, right over our un-scooped sidewalk. I’m glad they didn’t fall or the headline would have been ‘Local Couple Sued for Property Neglect’.

…But look at those beautiful windows! 🙂
Karla says
Interesting that the caption says that “despite cold temperatures last week, Seward residents made it out to scoop snow” and they show your unshoveled sidewalk…
Lauren says
It’s shoveled today, though! About two inches have come down and more’s on the way!
Kristi says
At first, I thought that cover photo was Lloyd in the classroom, going BEYOND the classroom. Upon closer inspection, I realize that the orange shirt was not Lloyd’s. Have you EVER worn an orange shirt, Lloyd?
Lloyd says
I would not be caught dead in an orange shirt. Many brave Americans have given their lives so that I could not wear communist orange.
Lauren says
You lie. There’s an orange shirt in your closet. Well, I guess ‘peach’ would be a more accurate description.
Karla says
That person doesn’t have enough hair to be Lloyd.
Kristi says
Your’e certainly right about that one.
Gretchen says
I think only Nebraskans use the phrase “scoop” snow. That is what both of my aunts always say. Here in Arkansas we say shovel. Or more accurately we say, “woo-hoo, an inch of snow, time to call off school!”
Lauren's mom says
Did you notice that Lauren said “shovel”? She’s got some Colorado in her! Actually Dad says, “Here we blow snow.”
Lauren says
Yeah, but first I said ‘un-scooped’. It’s the subject of tomorrow’s post. 🙂
