I had pretty much given up on that nest from last week. I couldn’t help myself – I checked on it way too often and it remained empty. I figured that I had made that little bird fly fah, fah away.
Drat. Nature opportunity missed.
However, on Friday I came home and thought I’d walk around to the backyard and check on the plants. As I went to peek in the nest, I wondered (within half a second) what was wrong with it when it suddenly exploded in startled mama bird. I hurried past, went inside, ran upstairs and hung out the window to take snapshots.
I think she doesn’t trust me.

In my garden, turtledoves sometimes sit on the ground as I walk past. They hold very, very still until I’m right next to them, then they jump up and fly and make loud flapping and tweeting sounds and scare the bejeebers out of me. They’re not even protecting eggs or anything. I think they’re just messing with me.

Yay! 3 little dyed Easter eggs in the nest! Not to be outdone by that eagle!
But be careful Lauren….vewy, vewy, careful! Birds have been known to peck out the eyes of humans.
