My birthday was a lovely day. Great poems by you guys, a blissfully short time at the surplus auction, and then a trip to Omaha to visit my stuff. Yay!
Once we got home, I made a list of all the things that still needed to get done this weekend, and started to panic a little. It’s all doable, and a normal person could probably get it all done in an hour. For Distractable Me – it could take days.
So, I got the laundry processing, set bills out to pay, started to clear off the kitchen counters and noticed that the bowl of leftover crayons that’s been shuffled from place to place this past week still didn’t have a home.
Distractable Me: “Hey! Let’s melt them!”
Reasonable Portion of Brain: “No. We have a list we’re following! Stick to the list!”
DM: “Lloyd! Help me peel crayons!”
RPoB: “.. but… the list…?”
Helpful Hint: if you have to peel a large number of crayons quickly and do not want to use your fingernail, I recommend peeling them like carrots – with a knife. One neat strip down the middle, then hand it over to your partner in art to peel the rest off.
I was going to just scatter the crayons on the foil-lined pan and let them melt as they would, but Lloyd decided to arrange them by color. Turns out – it was the right way to go.
We put them in the oven at 200 degrees and checked on them every few minutes, setting a timer so I wouldn’t forget all about them.
DM: “That would totally happen.”
I would like to say, that to my credit, I tried working on things on the list between the timer going off every four minutes.
RPoB: “Thank you.”
Once they were melted, Lloyd stirred them around with a skewer and we let them sit in the oven to cool.
(Actually, what happened is that I tried to take the pan out of the oven and he yelled, “NO! It will turn to brown! Brown, I say! Leave it alone.”)
We let it cool, and Lloyd was disappointed at how muddy it looked. I told him that the gray/pink part was spectacular and he should be darn proud of it.
…. but then we looked at the other side.
That is awesome! High-fives for serendipity!
What should we do with it?
RPoB: “*sigh* Add it to the list and cross it off.”

Is crayon wax flammable like candle wax is? If so, I have a few ideas about what you could do with that…

You could have put a wick inside as you rolled it up, and you would have an awesomely original (never to be lit) candle!

The first side reminds me of the ocean as it stirs up a hurricane. The back side reminds me of the earth’s hemispheres. I should like to live in the middle blue section.

Perhaps you could frame it or put it in a shadow box. People would think you paid a lot for it. Wait… Is this something that could be sold in the square on the Fourth? You could make a fortune!

I’m with those who are suggesting candles. Maybe in your little mason jars! How cute would that be!
Or, beings it’s made of wax….could you use it as a sled?
Christina Rowland says
you could use it to wax your surf board???
