When Lloyd’s parents came last weekend, they brought all kinds of produce. Wait. I already told you about that. What I didn’t tell you about was that they brought a giant watermelon that for one reason or another, we never got around to cutting up. They kept mentioning it, and I felt badly that we didn’t eat it.
Last week was crazy busy. I had meetings almost every night, so we sent the watermelon over to Sam and Rachel’s so it would get eaten. Saturday night Lloyd went over there to watch the Cardinals game and sent me a text that I should come cut it into sticks, but I was dealing with toilet issues instead.
Sunday night was the night. We went over to their house for dinner and the game. I set the melon in the sink and just cut the top third off, pumpkin-like.
And then I saw this: (Mind you, if the picture is upside-down, that is due to technical difficulties. Stupid iOS8.)
I confess I had a moment of confusion. Was it a pumpkin? What just happened? Is it not ripe? What?
Then it all made sense. Lloyd’s parents grew it – they knew! NO wonder they kept saying we needed to eat the melon! I am heartily sorry that they were not here to witness my confusion and surprise, because that was a fantastic joke!
