(Ok, sorry about this. I started it yesterday but then Lloyd found his cool name thing and offered to make the night’s post. Wasn’t gonna turn that down.)
(Monday night:) It was a doozy of a day at VBS. Day One actually went pretty well, as it always does. While we were gone apparently, the Fire Marshal stopped by the center and made several unreasonable demands. He wants doors changed out and new electrical outlets put in and all extension cords gone and other kinds of nit-picky things that we will have to comply with because he holds all the power and he knows it. *sigh*
Anyway, one thing he rightfully pointed out was that the door to my classroom is broken. All our doors have magnetic catches that are attached to the alarm system. If the alarm goes off, the doors automatically close. However, every day for the past…. 17 years? Is that how long we’ve been in that building? Every day the door gets closed for naptime. It takes a pretty good yank to separate the door from the magnetic catch, and a week or so ago, the actual catch broke loose from the wall. I said I’d get around to looking at it soon, then didn’t.
I looked at it Monday night. You’re welcome, Fire Marshall. It is mounted one inch away from the stud (left side), so the anchors finally broke free from the drywall. It’s not like I can just move this thing over, either. It is hard-wired in (and you know I am scared of wires), plus it has to match up to the piece on the door. You can’t also move the door piece over or they won’t ever meet. (The door edge would run into the wall.)
I know how I would solve this: Make a nice-looking wooden ‘plaque’ piece to slip behind this. Attach it to the stud, then the catch to that, but hey, I’m no Fire Marshall.
