I bought a pair of shoes about a month ago that looked like they’d be perfect for summer. Sole like a tennis shoe, but a little dressier like a flat. I tried them on in the store and bought them in a hurry.
Idiot.
Once I actually wore them, I remembered that most flats cut across the top of my big toe knuckles, which is where all the Foot Troubles live. I tried various methods to make this better: wearing them around the house with socks / using Lloyd’s shoe trees and jamming coins between the tree and the shoe where they needed more stretching (I even took pictures of that but have since deleted them.) I saw a thing on the internet where you fill baggies with water, put them in the shoes and then in the freezer. Um, that was over a week ago. Yesterday I went looking for something for dinner and found….
…. oops.
It helped somewhat, but for future reference, Lauren, the thing that really works is taking a flat pliers and just twisting the bejeebies out of the ‘collar’ of the shoe. I wrenched it all the way around to soften it up, and they fit great now.
Also, just buy the tennis shoes. Who are you trying to impress, anyway?
