Earlier this year I bought some sunglasses and glasses from LensCrafters. I’m satisfied with them, but I’m a couple of hundred dollars lighter. A few months ago I came across the site www.39DollarGlasses.com. I went ahead and ordered a pair, just to see if it was worth it. I’m not kidding – they were $40.05 with shipping! You pick out frames you like, plug in your current prescription, and they were delivered in about two weeks. There are some drawbacks to the system, though. I didn’t get to try them on, so I’m not super-thrilled with the look. (They’re quite similar to my current glasses – I’ll keep these as a back-up pair.) If I didn’t already have sunglasses, this would totally be the way to go. ($9.95 additional for tinted.) The other problem is that they didn’t fit perfectly – they were a little crooked. I’d feel awkward going in to LensCrafters and asking them to adjust them, so I resorted to my dad’s method – hot salt.
When we were little, my dad would heat up a pan of salt on the stove, stick in the earpiece, fiddle with it, let it cool (because he was nice), and ta-da – they fit! Not being practiced at this method, mine fit slightly better now, and I have two serious burns on my fingers.
