…. not even a previously-dead one.
Today’s after-work agenda was a nap, and then the first mow of the season. (Two mowings behind the rest of our crazy neighbors.) I was wondering how I’d handle the dead squirrel that’s been by the oak tree since last fall, and when it was time to approach it with the Toro – I decided to just go over it. Zinnnng! It flew a good five feet, and as I was trying to recover from my jibblies, I thanked God once again that I am married to a farm boy.

To the tune of “I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover”:
I’m looking over
my dead squirrel Rover
who I overlooked before …
One leg is missing, the other is gone
the third leg is scattered all over the lawn
No need explaining the one remaining,
it’s spinning on the carport floor
I’m looking over my dead squirrel Rover
who I ran over with the power mower!
It would sound good with a ukelele.
Lauren says
Ha! I truthfully did not see that one coming.
Peggy says
Love it!!! And you know it could easily become a camp song classic to kids everywhere! Put it on youtube quick!
And as I read this post, I at first assumed Lloyd wrote it…I just can’t imagine Lauren running over an animal, dead or alive…but it did CRACK ME UP!!!!
Brad says
I think you just didn’t run over it enough times.
Michele says
That’s a good one just before breakfast!
Kitt -- thanks for turning my into shock into a chuckle -- too funny.
Annette says
I’ve been had. You could have run over that mouse.
Lauren says
Major difference: This was already dead. (and flat.)
Kristi says
Get a dog. He’ll take care of the squirrel problem.
kiwe says
A dog would just roll in it and carry it around the yard!
Lloyd says
You can mulch a squirrel, but you can’t tuna fish.
Peggy says
hehehe…do another one.

I agree with Brad. Run over it more times and it will finally disappear. I have been dealing with a dead bunny in my yard for two weeks (Thanks Brad). I would have mulched it but it was still somewhat fresh and I didn’t want to scrape the small parts from under the mower. I am hoping it is a deterrent for other rabbits coming into the yard. But now without the rabbits, my dandelion population has exploded. What do I do? I know…..mulch the rabbit.
