So long, ConBloGar.

So long, ConBloGar.

I did yard work today. Well, ‘yard work’ might be too strong a term, but I did some stuff for fifteen minutes outside, so that’s got to count for something. It was looking pretty rough out there, what with my white trash scattered about hither and yon. I gathered up the dozens of buckets and brought them inside.

so-so-bad

Lloyd and/or I had every intention of mowing up the the leaves this weekend, but they were just too wet and would probably gum up the mower. or something like that.

I think there are hostas under there somewhere.

I emptied out the rain barrel and dismantled ConBloGar and OvAmCuLad (that’s code for ‘Overly Ambitious Cucumber Ladder’).

What was I thinking? I got three cucumbers out of the deal.

It was sad to take it all down. Sadder still is that I didn’t have a good plan for putting the downspout back together after removing the rain barrel. It’s ‘done’ now, but it’s blessedly too dark to take a photo and show you how I ‘fixed it. Let’s just say that it would be a good thing if I could raise the whole yard about two feet and leave it at that.

ummm....

It still needs work, but that’s for another year day.

I’ve never seen your Burning Bush when it was changing colors. Does it get any redder than that, or does it just drop its leaves?

I never even thought about the need to dismantle and store a rain barrel for the winter.

    Maybe I don’t want one.

The actual dismantling took all of two minutes. Draining the water took…. 8? I just shoved it in the shed and all is well. If I had taken the time initially to make the right downspout connection, this wouldn’t be an issue. Also, if the sun could shine directly on it, I would have left it up all winter. (It’s black -- I think it would thaw each sunny day. Or be a heckuvan ice cube.)

So if I’ve done the math correctly, (don’t let Suzanne R comment), that left 5 minutes for the downspout reconstruction? You must have been exhausted!

Congratulations on getting some work done!

The leaves on the trees here are BEAUTIFUL right now! I spent a good part of yesterday just enjoying the views! And napping…and watching G rated Halloween movies! It was a wonderful day!

I wouldn’t bother with any type of raking until the neighbors’ trees have also lost their leaves. And even then, maybe the wind will just blow them all away.
