Halloween, check

Halloween, check

Journal

Halloween has come and gone. Kate came over with her dog, and Lloyd has decided that he wants a cat who acts like Sophie.

We had a good crowd: A couple pioneer girls, a unicorn, some mice, a brood of vampires, a gaggle of princesses, and lots of Batmen – both modern and classic.

Halloween is awesome.

It was a good night, and the weather was perfect – warm enough to just wear costumes. Not like those Octobers where you have to wear your parka over your costume and people have to guess what you are based solely on your legs and head.

I shut the lights out at 8:15, though. Is that early? It’s probably too early, but I was done. Why, oh why isn’t Halloween always on a Friday?

Ha! That Batman with the super-big cheesy smile is awesome! I didn’t see any trick-or-treaters because I was at choir practice. But I did dress up for choir. I wore an old Buddhist Monk costume from college.

Lloyd, you got the best Halloween treat EVER! Is Sophie a dachshund? Dachshunds are my favorite! If Kate ever wants to get rid of her, I’ll drive out there to get her.

And 8:15 is not too early. I think 6pm -- 8pm is kind of the unwritten time frame.

I hope you have some good candy left. I don’t.

Not to be a total scrooge, but they don’t do trick-or-treating here and that was just fine with me! In fact I was thinking, “Hmm, when we get back to the US maybe my kids will have outgrown this craziness….”

We have scheduled, designated trick-or-treating time here. 5 to 7. And you better be ready to go at 5 because they’re going to be looking for goodies.

Mo Willems has a funny story about Halloween when his parents first moved to this country. I’ll have to look to see if I can find it…
