I’ve been on vacation the past week or so, and have more vacation coming up. I simply love it. When I’m on vacation, I’m the person I like best. I have minimal needs, so there is a TON of sitting around and being quiet, and that’s just perfect.
This year I’ve had some unfinished business at school, so I’ve been waking up at my regular time and going in around 7-ish to work for a couple of hours. I am in awe at the brilliance of this! While I adore sleeping, when I sleep in too much there is an element of shame about it. A ‘wasting the day’ feeling, mostly because if I don’t shower by noon – the day is shot. With the current system I can leave at 9 or 10, and then go take naps the whole rest of the day, yet feel totally self-righteous because I got up early and worked.
Today I got some papers sorted and worked on some school website stuff, but then left to give Anna (Beth & Brad’s niece) a ride to her play practice in Lincoln. They are in their last rehearsals for The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I went inside to make sure she didn’t get murdered on the way, and then hung around long enough to make the director nervous. “Do you need anything?” (I didn’t. I just enjoyed watching those young kids get really intense with their warm-ups. It’s going to be a heck of a play.)
Then I went to Scheels’ to price CO2 canisters for future pop making. I have no idea what the regular refills cost or if there is a place to refill them, but it was fun to waste time looking. Haven’t you heard? I got up early and worked.
Then I went to the airport to look at rental cars. I had toyed around with the idea of getting one to go visit my parents, but as it turns out, it would be cheaper to take….. the car I already have. Hmmmmm. Math is hard.
Don’t give me grief. I worked this morning.
That’s getting old, isn’t it?
Anyway, home to putz around on the internet and make Lloyd a lasagna to keep him alive while I’m in Colorado. He’s not going because there is internet-wiring stuff going on at St. John and he’s a part of that, plus he needs to give Deborah a ride to the airport on Saturday. (Don’t forget, Lloyd.)
The day ended with an evening meeting at work. What am I? Some kinda saint?
Deborah says
Definitely a saint!
Brad says
I’m with you. I love working in the morning. My brain works best then.
Tammy says
My brain functions best between 9 am and 9 pm. Before or after that, people are just taking their chances expecting too much from me, which makes being at work at 8 a.m. interesting sometimes. I do get up early and exercise (sort of) and then work in my garden for a bit before I get ready for work. That’s not exactly brain activity but I would think it counts for something.
Gretchen says
Is this what retirement will be like? If so…bring it on!!
Lloyd says
Almost like that. Except, remember the Twilight Zone episode where they guy broke his glasses in the last scene?
Peggy says
I’m not a morning person. Never have been. But wish I was. Do they have a pill for that….to make you a morning person?
You go Lauren….I’ll live vicariously thru you!
Peggy says
PS. You’re off in the summer Lauren? Excellent!! I thought you worked everyday regular hours for some reason.
Lauren says
I am spending my vacation days. I get four weeks, but usually don’t use them all. Now we are on our new plan and the max you get is three weeks, so I was told to use up some of my unused time. Woo-hoo!
