My mom is sick. She has a weird viral infection in her ear that is affecting her balance, plus a fever, plus pneumonia. She is having trouble eating and drinking, too, so any prayers you could offer for her would be much appreciated.
Other sad news involves a death. Long ago at the Center we had two college helpers that were just top-notch: incredibly wonderful identical twins, Steph and Jeni. We have college help all the time, but every so often you just get some bright stars. Steph worked with me in the preschool room, and Jeni was in the toddler room. They were bright and funny, and I remember thinking how weird it would be when they went out in the world and were no longer together.
Well, time went on and I was able to keep tabs on them through Facebook. They had boyfriends, and Jeni got married, then was pregnant, and just days ago gave birth to her son.
Then she got sick. Preeclampsia and bleeding on the brain.
Then she died.
I am having a difficult time processing this. We are not close anymore – it has been years since I’ve seen either of them, but I am just so sad for all of them. For her husband, who has been thrown into the worst event of his life when it was supposed to be their most joyful. For her little son, who will never know his mother. For Steph, who is now the surviving twin. What must it be like to lose your best friend since birth? These aren’t my sorrows, so I feel a little bit like an invader on their grief, but I am still praying for them all. Your prayers for them would also be welcome.
So there’s that. I’m in a bit of a funk.
