It was a good 4th of July. I heard on the radio that every American should read the Declaration of Independence on the 4th, and I gave it a shot. I’m not all the way through it because I have to keep decoding the language. I’m not very bright.
Lloyd and I made it out of the house around 10. We watched the cloggers (dancers) for a bit, the pole vaulting in the street by the brewery for a bit, wandered the booths around the square then ate in the food alley. The whole town pretty much turns into a carnival, and while it’s exciting, it’s a bit overwhelming. I was back home by 2 for a rest before the parade.
It was great to be back for the parade. We had a great group of yellers on the stairs. Our rules were you had to be old and either nerdy or cool. Eventually we let some young college kids come up and train with us. We chanted, yelled, waved and basically made the parade the wildly interactive experience it should be.
Afterward we had a picnic feast at the Royuks. They are wonderful hosts and there were so many people there! I left when the fireworks started because I am an old stick in the mud. I like the pretty fountain kind, but the banging kind hurt my ears. I walked home to arrive to our neighbors setting off a ten-minute banging strand. I am not kidding one little bit about the time. It set off a car alarm repeatedly.
*Sigh* It is my least favorite part of the 4th. I am skipping the big fireworks, too.
