Sorry for the vague and cranky post yesterday. I’m not really going off the deep end, I’m just feeling a bit of pressure. I am supremely grateful for the people who have taken time to volunteer. I’m not good at delegating so it’s hard to ask people to help. So, when I do ask people for help and just a faithful few show up, I am full of anger and bad, bad, bad words toward the people who are not there. See? This is why I just prefer to do it myself. ‘A committee of one gets stuff done’ – that’s my motto. When people say, “You just need more helpers,” I want to punch them in the face. Finding helpers is more work. More work that I’m not good at, and work that will leave me discouraged. So there’s that.
On to happier things. We did have helpers today – Deborah included – and they are working on the amazing playground that Lloyd is making possible. We have all the dumb foam chipped out of the rings (that’s Deborah working on it in the above photo), and today’s crew got all the rest of the logs around the older children’s sandbox. I made four trips to the burn pile with loads of bark (thanks to Harold for meeting me at the right time for the final trip) and did other stuff.
Around 3:30 I got to work on something that I actually want to do: label some rooms. We have no money for fancy signs, but we do have a die-cut machine and I have a $1.98 roll of contact paper.
They’re not perfect but these are in the basement and it really doesn’t matter. However, all the rooms in the building need to be labeled with numbers for the fire marshal and I tried the tape/paper/water method but then I remembered I could just print on clear labels. That’s the route to go.
