It was a tiring day. With the flooding, roads have been closed and staff needed to find alternate routes to work… until they didn’t. I marked that the highway was closed, but apparently an hour later some part of some levee gave way and the water went a different direction, opening east highway 34. One of my coworkers drove that way and I argued with her, “No, you didn’t. It’s closed.” I accused her of being a witch.
We had our second accreditation day and also a tour for Concordia students, but the accreditation team never came through for teacher interviews or chapel or the tour. I was very confused and a little annoyed. Apparently our documentation was sufficient, but still, I did a ton of work and am a bit confused.
Please pray for everyone affected by the flooding. Our town is not so bad, but Nebraska is pretty messed up right now. Kristi, things your way are fairly awful, I see. Lord have mercy on us all right now.

The LCMS Disaster Response team is in contact with the district disaster response coordinator. My team is staging the pieces needed should a Synod-wide appeal be needed. We’re monitoring your situation closely, praying, and preparing to help. We haven’t pulled the trigger because there needs to be an initial assessment of the needs and scope, and the formulation of a response strategy driven by local leaders in affected communities. Call me if you want to know more.

Thank you, Mark. That is wonderful! It is so awful in places -- entire little towns under water and bridges out. A friend of mine couldn’t get to work in Columbus because there is no access into town, and her aide’s father died going off a bridge. There have been posts on Facebook showing how big chunks of road can be washed away below the water and you’d never know. Don’t ever drive through flooded streets, everyone!

We’re beginning to load info on social media, our website, and other communications channels.
People can give in support of relief and recovery efforts directly to the Nebraska District (Point your browser to: ndlcms.org/disaster-response/) or via Synod by sending a text with the keyword “LCMSFLOODS” to 41-444. The Synod online form is at lcms.org/givenow/flood. We’ll make a decision about a larger direct mail appeal to people after the damage assessment comes in and the district has formulated a recovery plan.

I’m not hearing about it on the news here at all. I prayed about it in faculty devotions yesterday, and many people didn’t know. I’ll keep spreading the word to pray.
