I’ve had parent-teacher conferences the past few nights, and I have to say that it’s been nice having leftovers in the fridge to eat when I get home. In the past I’ve often slurped down some ramen and a Pepsi, and immediately regretted it.
Tonight I had gravy bread, which might just be the best thing on the planet in the history of eating. When I was a kid, there was no meat involved – just a slice of bread slathered in gravy, eaten in nine perfect little bites. (Middle one last, of course.)
Oh, gravy. I love you so.

I just threw out the last of my gravy today. It’s trash pick-up day. Goodbye, gravy. Goodbye, old pumkin pie.

Oh shoot….I would have eaten them for you. I was a garbage disposal for my parents for many years. Now that I think about it, I probably still am.

I have always wondered about pumpkin pie. It seems like it doesn’t taste as good even the third day after its creation. It had been five days.
Even if I wasn’t scared of what the milk and eggs were doing (which I was), I thought it must’ve been tasting funny by now. And no amout of cool wHip would fix that.
Curt says
Yeah, after a while pumpkin pie will start breaking down into a liquid or at least that was my experience one time when I forgot about it. I hardly have that problem though. It usually is gone in a day or two.

I had forgotten all about gravy bread! We used to have that when I was little; I don’t remember the last time I’ve had it though. Maybe later this week…
Shameless plug: Happy First Birthday Zeke! You’ve lived with us a whole year and we haven’t left you behind anywhere -- yet. 😉

I LOVE an open-faced turkey sandwich smothered in gravy!! I’ve never done just gravy bread…Yum! I usually freeze my left over gravy…but I don’t know if it works because the little container gets pushed to the back of the freezer & I find it
yearsmonths later & just toss it.Lauren says
Yeah, I was thinking a future post could be about all my recycled containers in the fridge and freezer. “They can’t all be sour cream” would be the title.
Happy Birthday, Zeke!

Agree. Gravy bread is awesome.

Your post reminded me of a song that my dad used to sing. I got him to email me the lyrics:
While traveling along through the country,
I stopped at many hotels.
Some have rooms just like boxcars,
And others have rooms just like cells.
But the last one where I stopped was a daisy,
So kind, so cozy, and sweet.
But it almost drove me crazy,
When I found out what they had to eat.
On Monday was bread and gravy,
On Tuesday was gravy and bread.
Wednesday and Thursday was gravy on toast,
Now that’s only gravy on bread.
So Friday I said to the landlord,
Can’t you give me something else instead?
So Saturday morning by way of a change,
We had gravy without any bread.
🙂

That is my new favorite song!
