So, here’s the story of our hotel.
Since all the siblings were descending on the parents for the weekend, we thought it would make everything easier if we just stayed in hotel rooms. There aren’t a heckuva lotta choices around Eckert, Colorado. Mark got a room at the Howard Johnson’s in Cedaredge (which is just a couple of miles up the road from Mom and Dad), and Keren got one at the Cedaredge Lodge. She had a link to their site, and it looked like something I’d like.
It’s an old 9-room motel – the kind that was popular in the …. I don’t know – ’50s? The current owners, Gary and Donna, are from Florida and have done a ton of work on it. Most of the rooms have little kitchenettes and satellite t.v. (though Keren’s room needed a different paint color), but they’re not the big deal. The big deal is what’s out back.
A creek! Apple trees! A swing! A fishing pole and a net to catch trout!
A hammock! Swing in the breeze and listen to the water!
And hold on to your Rich Inner World horses – an outdoor kitchen and living area.
Oh, my lands, I was dead and firmly planted in heaven. It was hard to breathe correctly while walking around that space. We were the only ones there on Friday morning and made breakfast – outside, with everything necessary! Seriously, this place had more appliances, pots, pans, dishes, and other kitchen stuff than mine!
When done eating, you could relax on the sofas or sit at the tables.
It was fantastic. There was a fire pit (yay!), a game room, a hot tub and a massage room (I did not partake).
Before we arrived, Donna called me to say that someone was staying longer and our original room would be full, so they needed to upgrade us to the one little apartment-style room that they had. That actually worked out perfectly since I needed to sleep upright. I was in tiny house heaven.
So, Gary and Donna, if you read this – great job with the place! They were so friendly and just the perfect hosts! (The only improvement I would suggest is re-painting room 5 a different color.)

Cool. I like the log cabin look. And the hammock. The hammock is awesome.

OH MY GOSH…It’s like being on Gilligan’s Island…a true fantasy of mine!!! Complete with all the characters (hehe)! I’m DROOLING over that outdoor kitchen…LOVE IT!!
By any chance, did you get to rent one of these:

Can we see Room 5?
Rae says
Or can you at least tell us what color covered its walls?
Lauren says
It was an unappealing, slightly shiny brown. I’m a big fan of brown, so I’m not sure what made it a little off. It might have had a slight green tinge, or maybe it’s just because it was so dark.
Change that color, though, and the room’s a winner.

Wow! That’s too cool. I’ll have to keep it in mind next time I find myself in or around Cedaredge, CO 🙂
Brad says
The name of that town seems misspelled. If it were “Cedaridge”, I would get it. I know what a ridge is. If it were “Cedarage” I might guess it was an acreage with cedars. But “Cedaredge” is a mystery.
Lauren's mom says
Brad,
Lots of cedar trees around there. There is also Cedar Mesa east of town. So.. I think it comes from the edge of the cedars. (Now the word cedar is starting to look funny to me.) 🙂
Brad says
Ahh… “Edge”. That makes perfect sense.
Lloyd's Mom says
Happy Anniversary to your Mom and Dad, Lauren. You had really classy sleeping arrangements that look like lots of fun. We enjoyed ours in Nebraska as well. We missed you but our days were just not on the calendar at the right time. We enjoyed your home very much.
Kitt says
Fun! That sounds like a nice weekend getaway for us. Do you just go out I-70 and then south from DeBeque?
Lauren says
You can, but just be prepared if you’ve never driven over Grand Mesa before. There are parts where the road is very narrow and the side just drops away with no guard rails. I guess they figured if drivers picked that route, they were ok with dying if something went wrong.
(We usually drive into Grand Junction, then down to Delta, then over to Eckert/Cedaredge.)
Jill says
I’m so excited!!! Just made reservations here for Labor Day weekend!! I have been looking forward visiting since you posted this…and we’ll be staying a little over a year later. Yay! (too many exclamation points? Can’t contain my excitement!!)
Bliss. I’m looking forward to bliss.
Lauren says
What the what?!? That’s crazy talk! Did you get the upstairs room? Lloyd wants me to say, “It’s not about the room, it’s about the outside stuff.”
Jill says
We’re in room 1 and my sister (if she’s able to make it) will be in room 6. I’m trying to formulate a list of what I’m looking forward to the most and it is not going well. My brain-“The HAMMOCK!! NO NO, the river/stream sounds!! No, wait, the outdoor KITCHEN!! Or, maybe all the cool rustic-y wood!!” ZZZZit.
I think I short circuited.
(I hope we’re not upstairs. The 5 of us are not so good at what you might call “packing lightly.”)
