As it turns out, my parents live a looooong way away. You already know that I stopped and shopped at IKEA on the way out to Colorado, a d broke the trip up into two days. Well, on Tuesday I was surprising ly awake for the return trip. I had supposed for snacks and coffee a couple of times, but was just wide awake. Bored silly, but wide awake. I wondered about stopping for the night or just driving straight through. I had also brought along supplies for napping in the car, but then I remembered that Nebraska had a couple of KOA Kampgrounds, and might even have Kabins! (Yes, with a K. Sorry about that.)
Well, i called from the road and the nice British lady on the phone in Gothenburg said that yes, they had one available. Woo-hoo! Even more wide awake and excited driving that little bit!
It was fun. The area is nothing special – no lake or river right next to it, but it was very pleasant. Some rv’s, some tent campers, the Kabins, a pool and a restroom/shower/laundry house.
The cabin (I’m done with the K) had a double bed and two bunk beds. No linens, just vinyl-covered mattresses. (I had a pillow and two blankets.) There were pegs on the wall, a little desk with a t.v. on it (I know!), wi-Fi (that was spotty, but still!), a porch swing, and a door that had a latch just like in the Little House on the Prairie books. Bliss.
Well… not the sleeping. I was still amped up from the adrenaline and caffeine. I didn’t get to sleep until after midnight, and I was up at 5:15.
Overall, it was a great experience, except for seeing the sad little kittens climbing around the little dumpster by the front office. They are Kampground Kats, apparently, and yes, I checked it before I left in the morning to make sure there were no kittens inside. I am krazy, after all.
I’m just lumping the photos all together here at the end. Enjoy!
Here is a bad 360, too

That would be so much FUN for a 4-year old boy (and his dad/parents). I’m so glad you tried this and posted about it!

If I had a door like that, I’d be worried that some vandal would cut the rope and I’d be locked out of my house forever.

That is AWESOME! I love the picture of you on the porch! It really is like your in the LHOTP days. (Only better….because you have an air-conditioner & a TV….must haves when pretending to be in the 19th century)
Your pictures make me want to bake pies & put them out on the porch to cool.

I think Dad and I stayed in one of those once. It was nice, but I don’t think we slept well either.
I am so glad you didn’t drive straight through. 14 or 15 hours?
Lloyd says
This is actually Lauren talking: It’s that dreaded time difference that messes me up. I think I drove 10 hours on Tuesday and 2 1/2 on Wednesday. It might have gone faster but there was construction all along I-70 and I-80 -- just on the eastbound side.
