I am not going to post a photo with this, because it’s too soon, but I want to talk about my finger again. Brad, and anyone else who might feel woozy at this, feel free to leave now.
So, the cut is not a giant cut. I have since had a chance to look at it and it is much smaller than a dime, so I guess I won’t be getting any Hero Award or anything. (Dang it.) But here is the rundown of why there is egg membrane stuck on my scab:
When it first happened I washed it and then sloppily put a bandaid on it. I spent the next several hours watching t.v. and napping upright with my hand behind my head for ‘direct pressure and elevation’. (I can justify napping no matter the situation.) That night I thought I really should re-do the bad bandaging, so I pulled it off.
That was a mistake. There was a lot of b-l-o-o-d. (I’m spelling in case Brad is still reading.)
Many thoughts ran through my head in the next few seconds, the main one being, “This is going to happen no matter what kind of bandaid I use – it will always stick to the scab. This is no good. NO GOOD!” I had read before that people use egg membrane as a kind of hippie bandage, and it seemed to make sense in this situation – seal off the part that is b-l-e-e-d-i-n-g and then wrap a bandaid around that so it won’t stick. You just crack an egg, rinse the shell, peel off the membrane and slap it on.
Well, by gum, it worked. Here we are four days later and it is healing up surprisingly well. I am also doing the earth-hugger step of soaking my finger in warm salt water for several minutes in the evening. It’s supposed to promote healing and I also was initially trying to get the egg skin off.
Thanks, chickens. Thanks….. oceans? Who do I thank for salt?

Happy Birthday, Peggy! (Thank you, Facebook. 🙂 )

Awww, thank you Lauren!!

Happy Birthday, Peggy! Woo hoo!

And I never heard of putting egg on a wound (great title btw!) Weren’t you afraid of getting salmonella?
Here’s to the wonderful healing agents in nature! Now on to find out who I need to thank (or thanks, NOT) for salt!
Lauren says
I never thought of it, but after doing it I read about it some more and that was something new to worry about. Oh, my paranoia is fueled so easily….

I’m pretty sure it’s God. What with His whole “heavens part from the oceans” thing.
Also, I have a sweet story about an egg membrane keeping my chin together after an unfortunate meeting with the gym floor…

I didn’t get light-headed even once while reading your post. Am I getting more tolerant of blood? Maybe I’m distracted by my amazement of the egg membrane maneuver.
Kristi says
Egg membrane? Really? That is egg-cellent news.
CousinRachel says
I always put salt on my eggs…
