Today (Saturday) was the adult conference day at our literacy festival, so I had my Eric Carle workshops. I am glad to say that 1) they went well, 2) I only said about three stupid things, and 3) it’s over!!!
My sessions were in a different building than all the rest, and the building is not well-marked, so I made some signs to hang on the trees pointing people in the right direction. The first one was well-attended, but the second one (after lunch) had five people and me. I joked that we could all go somewhere else but they wanted to stay. Two minutes in, everybody else came because the luncheon went long. Whew!
They had a good time. I talked about Eric Carle and then let them paint. I told them that I don’t like going to workshops where we are supposed to act like little kids, so I didn’t want them to paint like children – I wanted them to paint like themselves. Eric Carle just makes pretty papers – starting with one color then adding paint on top. It was wonderful watching them get immersed in making paper after paper. We all agreed that if we were drinking wine while we did it, it would be better than any therapy out there.
Also, did I mention that it’s over? Ahhhh….
