One of the girls on the playground said that her sister was going to get a perm on Saturday, and I had a flashback. When we were first married, I tried to give myself a perm a couple of times. The problem was multi-fold. I didn’t want tight curls, so I used regular curlers. Then, I’d put the solution on, but not for the whole recommended amount of time, because – again – I didn’t want tight curls. Then I’d take the rollers out, and even though you are supposed to leave the whole mess alone for a day or two, I’d finger-comb it out, then wash it the next day. Why? I didn’t want tight curls.
Do you know what I ended up with? Chemically burned hair that had one slight wave in one strand of hair.
I am glad those days are over.
