The scene: Sunday night. Lloyd is on the phone with Samith, who is on his way over. My phone rings. It’s Mrs. Royuk.
“Is Lloyd there? I’m at Beth’s. Their oven is really hot and there’s a little flame inside.”
“We’ll be right over.”
Lloyd and I have never moved so fast. I got him up to speed while getting our fire extinguisher, and we were over there in a flash. (Beth and Harold went to a football game in Kansas City and were on their way home.)
It was the element that caught fire. (This actually happened to us before, but there is NO RECORD of it on this website! What the what?) The actual fire was out by the time we arrived, due to the quick thinking of Elaine! (Just leave that oven door closed.) Lloyd went downstairs and turned off the circuit and all was well.
Looks like somebody’s getting a new stove!
Brad says
How interesting. And scary. I didn’t know the element could catch on fire. But I have a gas oven, so nothing bad can happen to me, right? …right?!?
Deborah says
I’m thankful it didn’t do any other damage.
Beth says
Thanks for helping Mom. And for saving our house from burning down. That would have been a real downer.
Tammy Pester says
Yes that would have been a real downer! Our oven did that once to -- Dale was on the phone with Harold when I very wide-eyed approached him and said HELP! The flame did go out on its own and we got a new heating element! All was well -- but a little scary.
