So, let’s talk about The Lady. I should know her name, but I don’t. When Lloyd has the two services at the nursing home (9:30 and 10:15), the first one is in the Alzheimer’s ward. It’s a smaller group, and they meet in a little alcove that is half lounge, half kitchenette. There is one lady there that is a terrible flirt, and gets on the nerves of the other residents. When we arrive, she is usually singing hymns or patriotic songs rather loudly, gleefully doodling her way through the stack of large-print hymnals with colored pencils.
When she sees Lloyd coming, she doubles up on the the charm. “Peek-a-boo! I see you! I love you! What are we doing today?”
Lloyd answers, “I see you, too. I love you, too. We’re having church in a little bit.”
She starts it up again. “I like your beard. Peek-a-boo! I love you! What’s happening next?”
This goes on and on while I clench my fists and think about smacking her flirty mouth. Back off, woman – he’s taken.
Just kidding. I think she’s great. I had a little preschool girl a couple of years ago who was just as feisty. In my mind, this is how she will be in the home. It’s hilarious and awesome.
Peek-a-boo.
