Journal, Lauren

On the off chance that my family checks this for photos of the weekend, I’m just going to post some pictures. Mind you, I don’t take very good pictures, so I can make no promises about quality.

The church is quite beautiful. It was built in the late 50’s, but looks very modern. The photo doesn’t do the brickwork justice.

View from the choir loft

They knew there would be a ton of people there so they set up the fellowship hall with a gigantic flat-screen t.v. I felt weird watching church on t.v. and not being in my bathrobe. Shoulda brought a bathrobe.

Church on t.v. What a concept!

Mark (who works at the seminary in St. Louis) had a very funny story about visiting a pastor of a Chinese Lutheran church in downtown New York, but there’s no way I could re-create it without the use of sound. So, here he is telling it to my folks. (Trust me, it was wicked funny.)

Look at baptismal font... its a pagoda... its Buddist!!

I have NO pictures of my aunts and uncles! Stupid Lauren. The only time I would think to take a picture was during a very inappropriate time, like during church, or during church. (We had two services.)

Something very, very strange that we saw in Blue Hill was this object. Anyone want to hazard a guess about what it is?

What could it be?

I’m pretty sure that thing is filled with tiny tornado information transmitters…just like Dorothy in the movie Twister. Just in case Blue Hill gets wiped off the map, at least they’ll have some cool tornado information to make the town infamous!

It’s got to be the most unusual water tower I’ve ever seen or maybe a giants golfball.

It’s Doppler Radar. I didn’t know it had the markings of a soccer ball, though. How’d you like to kick that thing around?

No pictures of Aunt Ruth? Her recipe for killing ants worked pretty well. I had to take the Grant’s spike apart though. Inside it was a gelatinous cube of poison. Delightful!

I think that white thing is a mind-control device. They’re scattered throughout the US. Ask any person who wears an aluminum foil hat. They’ll tell you it’s true.

Um … your mom doesn’t seem to find the story wicked funny … perhaps just wicked ….

And I’m pretty sure that thing is a new hi-tech bee-hive … Blue Hill is the honey captial of the world isn’t it.

It’s because the picture is taken during the ‘build up’ -- right before the really funny part. I have a little video of them laughing like crazy, but it is too short and has no context.
