The disgusting answer

Cooking, Lauren

I’m a pig, right? We’ve established that. Well, when I bake bread and they say to pour some water in a pan on the bottom of the oven, I do. In fact, I pour it into the same pan that I have never washed since I started making all this bread. (In the oven that I have only cleaned once, and it paid me back by melting the sides of my cabinets.) It’s the dedicated ‘disgusting pan that holds water to create steam in the oven and that’s it’s only purpose so how clean do you really need it to be?’ pan.

The old water/steam stains are quite beautiful, aren’t they?

Something so gross can be so lovely? The Grand Canyon’s made of dirt.

Ha!

Ha indeed! That’s pretty funny. Looks much nicer in closeup.

(I’ve been doing the occasional mystery post, too. It’s fun to see what people guess!

Hehe … my oven is a mess too … and it has recently become covered with cornmeal. BTW: you don’t have to wash things that people don’t eat off of … at least not until the time comes when they will need to eat off of it. So forget about the “water pan”, silly.

Awesome! I would never have guessed it!

Do you have a baking stone?

On another note, I sent Lloyd at lloydandlauren.com a link for more uses for flax seed. You guys share that e-mail, right? Oh, heck, here it is, as long as I’m completely off-topic: http://blog.nutritiondata.com/ndblog/2008/03/does-baking-wit.html

Why, yes! The ugly, unwashed pan above the metal one is my Pampered Chef baking pan/sheet thing. I scrape the cornmeal off that about every other loaf. 🙂 Oh! I just now read what Kristi wrote below, but I’m just going to keep on typing. I am Queen of Disgusting! (and Mayor of Laurenburg -thanks in advance for your visit) Can you tell I just got back from the potato bake and adrenaline is coursing through my system?
