Tonight we went to Concordia for their Fan Appreciation Barbecue and were going to just stop quickly at the game to say ‘Hi’ to Beth, Harold and Brent in the press box. (They do stats for the Bulldogs). Well, a quick stop turned into half the game.
It was pretty cool. We were up high alongside people with video cameras, binoculars, headsets and computers -all looking very intent and serious. Even Lloyd got into the game and the gadgets.
And then there was – Brad and me. He probably would have been very interested in the game had I not been there, but (football fans free feel to hate me now) I’m pretty much a waste of air at sporting events, so he tried to keep me entertained. I zone out, fidget, and look at all the stuff. The two guys from the Doane (opposing team) radio station were fascinating! They sounded just like announcers – the right cadence and inflection – yet they were just kids.
Anyway, after a quarter and a half, I started to have some dangerous daydreaming episodes, and was fidgeting pretty badly. I started to wonder if somebody gave me a million dollars to watch a game and keep track of what was going on, could I do it? Would they have to somehow monitor my brainwave patterns and eye movements? Would the testing hurt? Squirrel!! I was grateful to Harold for updating me every so often about what was going on. He had a secret admirerer, but I don’t think he knew it.
We left after the first half, but first we watched the dance team do their halftime show, then said, “Now it’s our turn!” and acted like we were running out onto the field and doing some horrible, Elaine-from-Seinfeld-inspired dancing…….while the dance team coach watched us…..erm…….
I think I might be banned.

I’m qute certain this is the first time, ever, that we have been documented in pictures. And that’s a little remarkable. Because we have been doing this together (Brent and me) for a long time. This marks out THIRTEENTH season. Crazy.

That Seinfeld episode just aired on Thursday night. That was one of the best episodes ever!!!
Annette says
Did you touch the sound system? Someone did! Good grief!
Brad says
I’m glad we left after the dancing incident. What would we do next, imitate statisticians while Beth watched?
You’re a bad influence. I at least can pretend to be watching the game when really I’m watching some kid eat a sandwich that’s too big for him, or watching some guy pick his nose, or watching some couple argue with each other. Squirrel!
But my stomach hurt from all the laughing we did. At least I got an ab workout.

So you made it home, Brad?
