Preschool can be weird.

February 11, 2018

Emma (not her name), a blonde curly-mop-top bubble of happy energy that just won’t quit and is never sad, was overjoyed at how far along our Valentine paper chain was coming. She gleefully danced on her tiptoes by the table and shook the pink, red and purple links, pausing only to look at me and say, “Vagina”.

I smothered a smile and asked, “What?” She stopped floating for a moment and seriously said, “Vagina. It’s a fancy word for..”

I cut her off. “I know. That’s not really a word we need to say here.”

She smiled and continued admiring the paper chain. Life went on. Kids are weird.

I think Emma might be onto something. We use names for those same body parts for girls and boys on such derogatory terms, why can’t it be for happy things instead?

Ha! That reminds me of Kindergarten Cop.
